JUST PLAY SOCCER is led by a team of elite college and high school coaches dedicated to player development and college recruitment. Our directors hold the highest coaching credentials, including the USSF A License and NSCAA Premier Diploma, with over 20 years of experience in youth soccer. With head coaching experience at the USL2 and NCAA levels, our staff has a proven track record of DEVELOPING TOP TALENT. Just Play coaches have mentored and placed players in elite conferences such as the ACC, Big 10, Ivy League, Summit, NE-10, and NESCAC. Our mission is to provide high-level training, exposure, and opportunities for players striving to compete at the collegiate level and develop their game at the youth level.

Coach Jake Beverlin is the current head men’s soccer coach at UMass Boston and the USL2 head coach for NEFC, where he also serves as the Director of the NEFC North Shore region. Holding a USSF A-License and a Premier Diploma, he has been recognized as a fout-time  LEC Conference Coach of the Year and the Mass Youth Soccer Competitive Coach of the Year. Throughout his career, Beverlin has guided multiple teams to LEC regular season, conference tournament championships and NCAA appearances. Beverlin, previously served as the Boys Director at Surf Soccer Club and Boys DOC & MLS/DA Director Valeo FC, where he played a key role in player development and team success.  Throughout Surf and Valeo he has helped over 150 players be placed into the collegiate ranks, won 7 MYSA State Championships, and 5 Eastern Regional Championships. 

Coach Joe "Cal" Calabrese is a highly accomplished soccer coach holding a USSF A license with a proven track record of success at the collegiate and club levels. As the all-time winningest coach at Endicott College, he has been named Conference Coach of the Year five times and led his team to seven regular-season conference championships. Cal has also served as the Head Coach for the USL2 Western Mass Pioneers, the Senior Boys Technical Director for Aztec Soccer Club, Select, NEFC and an ODP Head Coach. His passion lies in helping players elevate their game, guiding them to reach their full potential on and off the field. Throughout his coaching career, he has successfully placed players at top NCAA Division I, II, and III programs.

Coach John Shimer is a highly respected soccer coach with a USC Premier Coaching Diploma and a reputation as one of the top attacking tactical minds in the game. John is currently the head coach at Emmanuel College in Boston, MA. Prior to Emmanuel, he gained valuable experience coaching in the ACC as an assistant at Boston College and as Head Coach at Pine Manor College. At Pine Manor he earned Conference Coach of the Year honors twice and led his teams to two conference championships. Shimer has also served as a club head coach and ODP head coach, helping develop players who have gone on to compete at top NCAA Division I, II, and III programs. His passion lies in refining players’ attacking technique and elevating their overall game.

Coach Jared Scarpaci is a Director at Just Play Soccer and the longtime Head Coach of Masconomet High School Boys Soccer, where he has led the program to multiple league championships and state tournament runs since 2015. Under his leadership, Masconomet has earned nine league titles and made several deep postseason appearances, including two state final appearances. He was previously the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Emerson College, where he became the program’s all-time wins leader with 111 victories and earned GNAC Coach of the Year and Eastern Massachusetts Coach of the Year honors. His Emerson teams produced 31 All-Conference players, 93 Academic All-Conference selections, and 10 Academic All-American teams. Furthermore, he served as the Director of the Olympic Development Program for Mass youth soccer for over 20 years and he was Vice President of the Aztec Soccer Club for 10 years. Jared is a proud Clemson University member, a perennial NCAA Division I powerhouse, where he developed his passion for the game at the highest level. He also served as Athletic Director at Masconomet from 2008–2013 and currently teaches history at the school. Known for his professionalism and player development, Coach Scarpaci brings unmatched experience and leadership to the Just Play Soccer program.
